Cooldown Reduction
Shatter the wait, unleash your might again before the enemy can breathe.
Cooldown Reduction is a fundamental combat statistic in Marvel Rivals, serving as a critical multiplier for a hero's offensive potential and survivability. Unlike raw damage or defense, this stat does not directly alter the power of an attack but rather dictates the frequency with which a fighter can unleash their most potent abilities. In the high-stakes battles across the timestream entanglement caused by Doctor Doom and his 2099 counterpart, the ability to cast skills more rapidly often separates victory from defeat.

Lore & Background
Throughout the game's seasons, various Team-up abilities have been introduced that grant cooldown reduction effects. For example, with the launch of Season 9 in July 2026, each hero gained at least two different Team-up abilities regardless of what other heroes their allies were playing. The Hulk can choose either a Captain America Team-up that grants a ground slam ability and a cooldown reduction passive or a Wolverine Team-up that grants a fury state ability and the Unstoppable status effect at low health. If Captain America is on his team, then his ground slam Team-up gains an enhanced effect. This mechanic allows heroes to cycle through their skills more quickly, turning a momentary pause into a continuous storm of destruction.
In Their Own Story
The air inside the Empire of Eternal Night: Midtown was thick with the scent of sulfur and fear. Kaelen, a seasoned Gunner, watched his clockwork mechanism whir as he prepared his ultimate barrage. His enemy, a massive corrupted beast, roared, its maw opening to swallow him whole. In that split second, the Team-up ability on his armor flared with blue light. The usual wait for his heavy cannon to recharge vanished; instead of a pause, there was only a blur of motion. He fired again, and again, turning a single shot into a relentless hailstorm that crushed the beast before it could even blink.
Reader's Guide
Cooldown Reduction in Marvel Rivals is primarily acquired through specific Team-up abilities selected from the character select screen. It directly lowers the timer on active skills, allowing players to cycle through their rotation more quickly. In PvE scenarios, such as the Marvel Zombies mode or the Blood Hunt PvE mode added on April 23rd, 2026, this stat is vital for maximizing damage per second (DPS). By reducing downtime between high-damage abilities, players can maintain constant pressure on bosses, often bypassing long telegraphed attacks by finishing phases faster. It also aids in crowd control chains, keeping enemies stunned or immobilized. In PvP, the mechanic shifts from pure DPS to survivability and outplay potential. A player with higher Cooldown Reduction can use defensive cooldowns like shields or dodges more frequently, making them harder to punish. However, players must balance this stat against others; focusing too heavily on speed without damage output may result in a fast but ineffective offense.
